KAREN cepeda (SHE/HER/HERS)

Karen earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame.  She completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago and has been a practicing Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for over 15 years.  Karen also has an endorsement in School Counseling from NIU, and is proud to hold a position as School Counselor at Murphy Junior High School in School District 308.  She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Educational Leadership in addition to her other pursuits.

Karen is passionate about facilitating others’ abilities to effect change in their own lives, especially with children and adolescents.  She thrives on helping individuals identify their problems, implement their strategies for change, and realize their potential. For the past decade, Karen has specialized in the treatment of victims and witnesses of abuse, specifically for children, adolescents, individuals, and families.  She has vast experience in parenting difficulties, including the specific issues of divorce, grief/loss and behavioral concerns.  Karen has a special interest is in treating women’s issues, especially those surrounding abuse.

Karen uses an integrated approach to therapy, which includes a client centered and a solution focused approach.  Karen partners with her clients during the difficulties and challenges life presents.  She is a calm and consistent presence who will encourage and implement positive and productive choices.
